Following a career as a free-lance architect, Zan studied fine art under Paul Millichip and Geoffrey Vivis (then head of Amersham Art School); following which she successfully completed the 4 year OCA Painting Course.

Zan still likes to travel and depict the different scenes, places, and atmospheres of places visited; both in this country and abroad.

The use of colour, which she sees in everything - hundreds of varying shades of which we may be unaware - is paramount in her painting.. It is the varying shades and subtleties that exist in both bright and muted colours, that she uses in her own particular style to describe the atmosphere of a particular place.
Oils on canvas are Zan's favourite medium; and she likes to follow the old masters when it comes to composition.
